In the research fields of Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), tracking and geometric registration methods are still one of the most important topics. The tracking research field is highly active. Every year promising novel tracking methods are proposed at the ISMAR symposium.
The purpose of the ISMAR 2015 Tracking Competition is to encourage both beginners and experts to seek and create the best tracking algorithms for typical Mixed and Augmented Reality applications. This year we have formulated the competition in mind the following three points.
The ISMAR 2015 Tracking Competition has two categories: on-site competition and off-site competition.
On-site Competition Category
The on-site competition is similar to the past ISMAR Tracking Competition. The task is tracking in an unknown area to identify certain elements based on given 3D coordinates. Participants are required to bring their own hardware and demonstrate their tracking approach on-site.
Off-site Competition Category
The off-site competition is a newly introduced style in which participants will submit their tracking results of the challenges given in advance. It consists of three scenarios and each scenario has three levels. The off-site competition is held with the assistance of Technical Committee on Pattern Recognition and Media Understanding (PRMU), The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).
